Parappanangadi

Parappanangadi is a small town in Tirurangadi taluk of Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is a town located close to the Arabian sea. Parappanangadi railway station is one of the oldest railway stations in Kerala. It was a part of the first rail route (Tirur–Beypore) in Kerala.

In 1425, the country was divided into North Parappanad and South Parappanad. Parappanad Kingdom was the dependent of Zamorins of Calicut. As per history books, it's given that in the middle of 18th century, the Royal Family of Parappanad Kingdom migrated into Travencore in the time of invasion of Hyderali. Kerala Varma Valiya Koyi Thampuran (Kerala Kalidasan), Raja Raja Varma (Kerala Panini) and Raja Ravi Varma (Famous Painter) are from different branches of Parappanand Raja Vamsam (Clan) which migrated to Harippad, Changanassery, Mavelikkara and Kilimanoor. The Chief Editor of the daily "The Hindu" (1898 to 1905) and Founder Chief Editor of "The Indian Patriot" Divan Bahadur Cozhisseri Karunakara Menon (1863–1922) was from Parappanangadi. O. Chandu Menon wrote his novels "Indulekha" and "Saradha" while he was the judge at Parappanangadi Munciff Court. The Education Minister of Kerala, P. K. Abdu Rabb, Ex. Deputy Chief Minister K. Avukader Kutti Naha, famous historians Dr. MGS Narayanan and Dr.M. Gangadharan, are from this town. Parappanangadi is the closest railway station from Calicut University campus at Tenhipalam. Ottummal Beach, Kettungal, Keeranallur, Newcut and Kalpuzha are the most important tourist points of Parappanagadi. The landscape of the novel "Daivathinte Kannu" by N.P. Mohammed which won the Kendra Sahithta Academy Award is Parappanangadi.
BEM High School, BEM Higher Secondary School, Co-operative College, SNM Higher Secondary School and Government High School Neduva are the major educational institutions of Parappanangadi.
Parappangangadi Town, Neduva, Palathingal, Chettipadi, Ullananm and Chiramangalam are the main areas of Parappanagadi Panchayat.
Neduva Community Health Centre, Parappanangadi Primary Health Centre, Nahas hospital, Prashanth hospital, Nasiya Hospital and AKG Memorial hospital are the main health institutions of Parappanangadi. Jayakerala, Pallavi and Prayag are the film theaters of Parappanangadi.
"Abhayam" - an initiative of AKG Memorial Charitable Trust, Parappanangadi is one of the major organisations in the district which function in the field of palliative care and other philanthropic activities.
Parappanangadi Unnikrishna Panicker, one of the most prominent astrologers, hails from this town.
