Parenzana
The Parenzana or Porečanka (also in Croatian: ''Porečka''; also in Slovene: ''Poreška''; Italian: ''Parenzana'') is one of the nicknames of a defunct narrow gauge railway (operating between 1902 and 1935) between Trieste and Poreč (at that time Parenzo, whence the name ''Parenzana''), in present-day Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. == Name == When constructed, the railway's official name was Parenzaner Bahn or simply Parenzana.〔(Official Site of the Slovenian ''"Parenzana Museum"'' ): ''"In the official gazette they used the German name “Parenzaner Bahn”", from "Parenzo", italian name of Poreč''〕 Later it was known as the Istrian Railway and TPC (standing for "Trieste - Parenzo (now Poreč) - Canfanaro (now Kanfanar)" ). Among the area's current majority Croats and Slovenes, the railroad is known as the ''Porečanka'' or ''Istranka'', ''Istrijanka''. Both the names meaning "a woman from Istria", and used to refer to a wine or vineyard railway. In Slovene, the railway is also known also ''Poreška'', while in Croatian it is sometimes referred to as ''Porečka'' as well as ''Porečanka''. In Italian the railroad's nickname is ''Parenzana''.
