''P. jumbo'' is not closely related to ''P. maculicauda'', but is positioned, instead, as a basal lineage of the Hypoptopomatinae. Additionally, ''P. collinsae'' is not closely related to ''P. maculicauda'', and may be more closely related to ''Hypoptopoma'' and four other genera.
