Pečica

Pečica is a settlement in the Municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah in eastern Slovenia. It lies in the hills north of Sladka Gora. The area is part of the historical Lower Styria region. The municipality is now included in the Savinja statistical region.〔(Šmarje pri Jelšah municipal site )〕
==Name==
The name of the settlement was changed from ''Sveti Mihael'' (literally, 'Archangel Michael') to ''Pečica'' (literally, 'small cliff/cave') in 1955. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms.〔''Spremembe naselij 1948–95''. 1996.
