Phansu

Phansu (fun-a-soo) is a village in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, in the Dapoli taluka. It is a rural town located in the Konkan division.
Phansu is named after the jackfruit tree, called "phanas". Phansu has many fruits and plants, and is home to many crops. It is the ancestral land of the Pethes.
Pethes are a Brahmin family. Modern day descendants include celebrated author, Meghana Pethe, and well-respected economics professor in Bombay University, Abhay Pethe.
The population, now over a thousand, has grown due to the needs of the Pethes. They needed milkmen, priests, storekeepers, etc. This land has been home to many for a long time now.
There are still Pethes in Phansu, though Vyankatesh Hari Pethe, a son of Phansu, left in the early 20th century for education. He moved to Mumbai, in Dadar, where the bulk of Pethe descendants now live.
Phansu has a school, several stores, and a Hanuman temple.
