Phytoglycogen is a polysaccharide extracted from plants (that provides energy to plants to grow). It is a type of glucose. It is mainly available in millets grown in Central and Southern parts of India. One of the millets, barnyard millet, where a polysaccharide extracted from the endosperm of the millet and composed of glucose was identified as a phytoglycogen. Phytoglycogen is similar to glycogen which is also a polysaccharide that exists in animal tissues. Phytoglycogen tends to adhere to human cells and grow human skin fibroblasts. In other words, it has high biocompatibility. == References == *Indian Medicinal Plants - An Illustrated Dictionary by C.P. Khare, published by Springer Science+BusinessMedia, LLC.
