Pihlaja
Pihlaja (Finnish for ''"Sorbus"''), also called "kettukarkki" ("fox candy") is a marmalade candy produced by Fazer. Fazer started producing the candy in 1895 at the conditory on Kluuvikatu, Helsinki, and it is the oldest candy produced by Fazer still on the market. The candy's recipe comes from Russia, where Karl Fazer took it with him when he returned to Finland after his studies.〔(Makeiset ), Fazer. Accessed on 16 August 2013.〕 The candies are wrapped in a yellow-red paper with a picture of a fox. Thus the candy is also unofficially known as the "fox candy". Pihlaja is lactose and gluten free (less than 0.02% gluten).〔(Pihlaja ), Fazer. Accessed on 14 July 2013.〕 The candy originally contained ''Sorbus aucuparia'' berries, but the recipe has since changed and the candy is now called "Pihlaja".〔 Until 1982 the candy was also known as "Pihlajanmarja" (''Sorbus'' berry). The candy is produced in Lappeenranta.〔 ==References==
