ProTell
ProTell (formally: "The Society for Liberal Weapons Rights") is a Swiss grassroots gun-rights advocacy group based in Bern, Switzerland.
Switzerland has a long tradition of gun ownership by civilians, as well as of target shooting practice, probably since 1291 at its very foundation with the first three cantons (Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden). The movement's commercial name (most commonly used) derives from the famous legend of Wilhelm Tell, shooting the apple off his son's head with a single arrow.
The movement was founded in 1978 with the purpose of defending the right of law-abiding citizens to carry arms, and is opposed to any restrictions in this regard. The group actively opposes violent crimes and acts of aggression perpetrated with firearms.
ProTell was one of the principal opponents to the draft bill entitled "Protection against armed violence", brought to referendum on February 2011. The initiative was finally broadly rejected by the voters.〔(Swiss overwhelmingly reject plan to tighten gun control in referendum )〕
