Prostitution in Italy : ウィキペディア英語版 | Prostitution in Italy
In Italy ''prostituzione'' (prostitution) (the exchange of sexual services for money) is legal, but organized prostitution (indoors in brothels or controlled by third parties) is prohibited. Brothels became illegal in 1958. Sex workers in Italy are often referred to as ''Lucciole'' (fireflies). ==History== Prostitution thrived in Italy in the Middle Ages. The city of Venice declared in 1358 that brothels were indispensable, and courtesans achieved high social status in Venice, particularly in the 17th century.〔''Leggi e Memorie Venete sulla Prostituzione''. Lorenji, Venice 1872〕
