Psychotechnology

Psychotechnology ''(sahy-koh-tek-nol-uh-jees)'' refers to any application of technology for psychological purposes〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Psychotechnology | Define Psychotechnology at Dictionary.com )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Psychotechnology Medical Definition | Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary )〕 or to any way of using psychological processes for a desired outcome.〔http://www.maps.org/news-letters/v18n1/v18n1-MAPS_26,31-35.pdf〕
==Literacy==
It has been argued by several researchers that literacy is a form of psychotechnology.〔Havelock, E. (1976). Origins of Western Literacy. Toronto: The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.〕 According to David Olson, for example, using written language opened three distinct avenues of human development: the emergence of explicit, autonomous prose; the ability to distinguish data from interpretation; and the growth of meta-language. All of these avenues are considered essential for systematic thought, as exemplified in the exponential growth of human culture following the advent of literacy.
