Puconci

Puconci (; in older sources also ''Pucinci'',〔(Vengušt, Jernej. 1919. ''Seznamek prekmurskih občin (krajev) z označbo pošte in zemljevidom.'' Radgona, p. 12. )〕 (ハンガリー語:Battyánd),〔 Prekmurje Slovene: ''Püconci'',〔("Živinsko i drobno senje (sejmi) v Sl. Krajini." 1929. ''Nájszvetejsega Szrca Jezusovoga veliki kalendár za lüdsztvo'' 26: 103. ) 〕 (ドイツ語:Putzendorf)) is a town and a municipality in the Prekmurje region in northeastern Slovenia.〔(Puconci municipal site )〕 Prior to 1920 it was known as Battyánd, Hungary.
The majority of the population is Lutheran, making Puconci one of the few Slovenian municipalities where the majority of the population belongs to a non-Catholic denomination.
There is a Lutheran church in the middle of the settlement, built in 1784, the first Lutheran church in the region of Prekmurje.〔(Slovenian Ministry of Culture register of national heritage ) reference number 4153〕 It was rebuilt and restyled in 1909.
Prominent natives and residents of Puconci include the writers István Lülik, Sándor Terplán, Rudolf Czipott, and Ferenc Berke, and the politician Feri Horvat.
