Puliangudi, a Grade – II Municipal town is located between Kadayanallur and Rajapalayam on the National Highway 208 (Kollam to Tirumangalam). It falls under the administrative jurisdiction of Tirunelveli District and Kadayanallur Taluk. Taluk headquarters, Sivagiri is located at a distance of 20km from Puliangudi in northern direction, 40km North of Rajapalayam and 30 km South of Tenkasi. It is a second largest (in terms of area) urban centre in the district and it is close to the foothills of the Western Ghats in the eastern side. The District Headquarters, Tirunelveli is 70 km away from Puliangudi in southeast direction. Courtallam, famous for its waterfalls, is located at a distance 35 km in western side of the town. Sengottai and Kollam towns are also located at a distance of 38 km and 130 km respectively in the western side. It is mainly an agricultural based town and is famous for its Lemon market; Puliangudi is also called as ‘Lemon City’. During the past years the economic driver of the town was agriculture & allied activities. Puliangudi town is spread across an area of 55.16 km2 and it is divided into 33 wards. The town is located at the junction of roads from Madurai, Rajapalayam, Sankarankoil, Kadayanallur, Tenkasi, Sengottai and Kollam. The town is surrounded in the north by Vasuthevanallur Town Panchayat and in the south by Punniyapuram Village Panchayat. Mullikulam Village Panchayat forms the physical boundary of Puliangudi in eastern directions.
