Punon ((ヘブライ語:פּוּנֹן),(アラビア語:فُونُون)) is an ancient city in the Arava, Jordan. It was a center of copper and iron mines in biblical times. Today it is called ''Feinan'' or ''Faynan''. Punon was one of the places (or "stations") visited by the Israelites during the Exodus. "They traveled from Tzalmonah, and encamped in Punon." (Numbers 33:42) ==Metallurgy== Faynan is noted for the largest concentration of copper ore deposits in the southern Levant. They were exploited from the 9th millennium BC onwards. Smelting occurred on a large scale during Early Bronze Age (3600-3300 BC). Based on the amount of slag found, 300-500 metric tons of metal could have been extracted in the 3rd millennium BC.〔K. Kris Hirst, (''Khirbet Faynan (Jordan).'' ) Ancient Copper Production Site in Jordan. -- archaeology.about.com〕 "The ore deposits are part of the same geological formation as those at Timna on the western (Israeli) side of the Wadi Arabah, which has been better documented, and where more mines have been identified. However the size of the Faynan mines suggests a more intensive exploitation than at Timna."〔(Wadi Faynan, Copper Mine ) www.world-archaeology.com〕 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Punon」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
