He is also known as ''Makkal Nayagan''. He was called as the rural box office emperor in the late 1980s, his movies used to do well in rural centres. He is known for his dark shirts and colorful costumes. His movie Karagattakaran was a block buster which ran for 365 days in Madurai, Chennai. He took a plunge in politics and managed to become an MP.
