The Rawal surname is used by Rajput, Jatt, Gujjar, Khatri and Brahmin families. Khatri and Rawal are of same clan from ancient period. Khatri were gujjars in ancient period. Khatris and Rawals have long relationship from a very long period. Many of these families spread throughout other parts of India in the 16th and 17th century. Its members are found mainly in the urban areas of Punjab, mainly the cities of Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha and Gojra. Bappa rawal (Prince Kalbhoj (his actual name) who came from Atri clan did not continue the family name of seven generations when he came to the throne; instead, he established the Mewar Dynasty) was the famous king of rawal community. While many are now engaged as Hakeem and farmers, other have taken to Standard Education.
