Romkerhall

Romkerhall (also ''Romkerhalle'') is a tourist site with hotel in the Oker Valley, Harz, Germany.
It lies next to the B 498 federal road and was built 1861 - 1863. In order to make the hotel even more idyllic, the investor had some of the water of the River Romke diverted along a ditch to rocks above the lodge, where it then cascaded down a descent as the Romkerhall Waterfall (''Romkerhaller Wasserfall''), making it the highest waterfall in the Harz mountains by some margin. The site is today a restaurant, hotel and popular destination, that is marketed as the Kingdom of Romkerhall. Officially the electricity plant belongs to the municipality of Schulenberg im Oberharz and the inn to Goslar. In the immediate vicinity is the Romkerhalle Hydropower Station (''Wasserkraftwerk Romkerhalle''), where electricity is generated from water impounded by the Oker Dam.
Romkerhall is the departure point for many charming footpaths. Downstream a path runs along the Oker, which is surrounded by high rocks. This is sometimes used especially at weekends for rock climbing. There are also innumerable large boulders in the river which, every now and then, have formed small islands, including Betrothal Island (''Verlobungsinsel''), which is checkpoint no. 116 in the Harzer Wandernadel hiking system. From Romkerhall several steep paths lead up to the crags of the ''Treppenstein'', the ''Ahrendsberger Klippen'', the ''Mausefalle'' and from there to the ''Kästeklippen''. From the ''Ahrendsberger Klippen'' there is a beautiful view of Romkerhall and the waterfall. The ''Hallesche Hütte'' hut near the crags is the location of checkpoint no. 119 in the Harzer Wandernadel.
