Roniaur
The Rouniyar are a Hindu caste found in North India known also as Roniyar. Like many other North India Bania castes.〔''People of India: Uttar Pradesh'' Volume XLII Part Three edited by A Hasan & J C Das page 1224 to 1228 Manohar Publications〕
(Not to be confused with Rauniyars of Nepal)
Rauniyars of Nepal are simply a group of Chhetri's caste which is known to be great warrior. They are mostly found in Terai part of Nepal and some mid hills too. A low dense population of this group is found in capital as well. This group is mostly engaged in business.
Rauniyars were thought to be great warrior in past. They fought bravely in Anglo-Nepal war along with some great leaders Amar Singh, Balbhadra Kunwar as well. Rauniyars were migrated many years ago from mid hills. Historians say that they were migrated from western hills to Terai in search of fertile land and shelter after participating war. The title 'Rauniyar' was coined from sanskrit word 'Raun' means 'Battle' .
Nowadays, they mostly found in western and central Terais spending their life indulging in business and service as well.

They speak Hindi/ Bhojpuri/ Awadhi / Maithili among themselves, and Hindi with outsiders. Like other Banias, they are non vegetarians as well vegetarians.〔
In Bihar, the Roniaur are also known as Rouniyar. They claim to have come from Awadh some three hundred years. The reason may be with relevance to "Hemu Vikramaditya" a Hindu Emperor of North India during the 16th century CE. But this is not confirmed yet.
According to the list of Assam and other other north east region scheduled Caste list 1950 & 1956 of Indian Constitutions as frames by the Central Government of India they as listed as Bania & they are claim as scheduled caste in few in the State of Assam, Meghalaya , Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh even in Bihar also in the year of 1985 they treated as scheduled caste Annexure I & II, and many other states they claim as Other Backward Class as their own literacy economic/financial position.
