The S5.92, is a Russian rocket engine, currently powering the Fregat upper stages and it burns gas generator UDMH and nitrogen tetroxide. It has two throttle points. The first has of thrust, 327 seconds of isp, and 3 seconds of ignition transient. The second one has of thrust, 316 seconds of isp, and 2.5 seconds of ignition transient.〔 It was designed by KB KhIMMASH, the famous Isaev Design Bureau, for the Phobos 1 and Phobos 2 Mars spacecrafts. As such, it is rated for 50 ignitions, and 300 days between ignitions. While the Mars missions where unsuccessful, the spacecraft manufacturer, NPO Lavochkin, found a market niche for most of the basic space vehicle technology. Thus, the basic vehicle was adapted as the Fregat upper stage for the Soyuz launch vehicle, and later for the Zenit.
