SYD01 is a UHF Citizens Band (CB) repeater located in Hurstville, a suburb of Sydney, NSW, Australia. It was owned and operated for 10 years by long-time controversial CB operator and enthusiast, Jason Daniels, who is also known as JD. JD's voice could originally be heard on the SYD01 voice identification and call sign announcement every 10 minutes. There was also a "quack" sound on the dekey tail. The "Quack" was known as "Chuck The Duck". JD has been pivotal in CB radio in Sydney, as he has been the driving force behind several other well-known repeaters, such as VMG3 at Appin/Razorback and VMC4 at Port Kembla as well as VMB7 Mt Bindo (never commissioned) and an AUSTRALIA Wide Transportable UHF CB Repeater licensed to operate from channels 1–8. Jason (JD) also provided a voice call sign sample for VMB4 in Newcastle. At one point in time it was said that he held a monopoly on CB repeater licenses in Sydney, as he owned three repeaters, all within 100 km of each other, at a time when no other licenses were available. He is also a licensed radio amateur operator. SYD01 transmits on 476.425 MHz and has its input channel on 477.175 MHz. SYD01 provided coverage for the entire Sydney basin, with contacts reported from as far south as Wollongong and beyond, as far as west as Jenolan Caves, and up to the Central Coast. The repeater is used by Citizens Band (CB) radio hobbyists as home and mobile stations, four-wheel drive owners, and truck drivers alike. The repeater is currently on air.
