Saarijärvi is the home of ''Bonden Paavo'' ((フィンランド語:Saarijärven Paavo)) in the poem by Johan Ludvig Runeberg. Juho Hyytiäinen, the great grandfather of Pamela Anderson, left the village in 1908 emigrating to the American continent.
