Salvagnini is an Italian company producing complete systems and machines for processing thin sheet metal.
== Founding ==
Salvagnini was founded in Milan in 1963 by Guido Salvagnini to manufacture hydraulic power packs. In 1968, Salvagnini entered the sheet metal process automation sector, then in its very early stages. Transferics, a new technology for transferring workpieces from one point to another quickly and accurately, was born and patented.
In 1975, the company moved to its current location and changed its name to Salvagnini Transferica. Two years later, Guido Salvagnini invented and started to market the first Panel Bender (the P4), a programmable computer-controlled machine for bending a sheet of metal on all four sides, flexibly and automatically. But it was at the EMO trade fair at Hanover in 1979 that Salvagnini came to the attention of the international market, presenting an integrated production line formed of an S4 punch-shear and a P4 Panel Bender.
This marked the birth of the very first flexible and automatic sheet metal panel production system, heralding the concept of “Flexible Manufacturing System” (FMS) that would only establish itself in the sector a number of years later.
