Sangwan or sangwa is a clan or gotra of Jats found in Rajasthan, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh in India. The Sangwan clan is also settled in Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan.In Haryana bairagi caste also having the Sangwan gotra . The present name of Sangwan Gotra comes from Raja Sangram Singh (Sangu) who came to Charkhi Dadri area in Haryana from Ajmer in Rajasthan after a long war between old Kshatriya Jat Aryans and the newly formed Rajput Kingdoms of Rajasthan. Sangwan Jats are positive to people, to animals and helps others without personal interest. After independence in 1947, some sangwan jats moved to Uttar-Pradesh villages and cities. Most of them continued farming as zamindars and some got engaged in business activities. Sangwan Jats are interested in education. The Sangwan Jats ruled from Sarsu in Jangladesh region of Rajasthan from 8th to 10th century. Jangladesh corresponds with the princely state of Bikaner. Thereafter, their title changed to Rana in Ajmer. There is one town "Lahar" in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. Surname Rana and Lahari are found in this part of Madhya Pradesh. The kingdom name was Lahadi in the name of Raja Lahari. The present name is village Lihdi near Ajmer. Sangwan Jats ruled here for nine generations. Last king of this clan in Ajmer area was Sangram Singh or Sangu. He left the land Ajmer-Merwara and came to Dadri area in 1540-45 AD during the rule of Shersah Suri. Raja Sangram Singh was a brave king. He bought horses from Arab and Kabul.
