Scepta started his musical career where he grew up as a youth in New York. In those days he was known as DJ Ziggy Rankin, and Deejayed on various sound systems including the one and only Jack Ruby Sound. Later on he owned Culture Roots International Sound System. His family migrated to the United States when he was a teen. With his love for music, he eventually transitioned into a singing career and has appeared on various venues including: Summer Reggae Culturama, Jam Fest. Having has performed in places like Montreal, Jamaica, Grenada, Canada, the college circuits, and he even toured with Soul Jahs Band. He graced the same stage with artists such as: Dennis Brown, Sanchez, Beenie Man, Cocoa Tea, Anthony B, Johnny Osborne, Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, Yellow Man, Screechy Dan and Brigadier Jerry just to name a few. In April 2015 Scepta was selected as finalists for the 2015 Jamaica Festival Song Competition, attendees said he gave a captivating performance ensuring that he secured one of the top ten spots out of a field of over 70 performers.
