Schoeneus In Greek mythology, Schoeneus (Σχοινεύς) was the name of several individuals: #Schoeneus, a Boeotian king, the son of Athamas and Themisto.〔Pseudo-Apollodorus, ''Bibliotheca'', 1. 9. 2〕〔Tzetzes on Lycophron, 22〕〔Scholia on Apollonius Rhodius, ''Argonautica'', 2. 1144〕〔Nonnus, ''Dionysiaca'', 9. 314〕 He may have emigrated to Arcadia, where a village Schoenous and a river Schoeneus flowing by it were believed to have been named after him,〔Pausanias, ''Description of Greece'', 8. 35. 10〕〔Stephanus of Byzantium, s.v. ''Skhoinoûs''〕 and where his children were believed to have originated from. He was the father of Atalanta,〔Pseudo-Apollodorus, ''Bibliotheca'', 1. 8. 2; 1. 9. 16; Diodorus Siculus, ''Library of History'', 4. 34. 4; 4. 41. 2; hence her patronymic Schoineïa or Schoeneïs in Roman poets (e. g.
