Shiroor

Shiruru (Kannada: ಶಿರೂರು is a coastal village of Udupi District in the state of Karnataka India. Shiruru (Kannada: ಶಿರೂರು، Urdu شیرورو ) is a coastal village of Udupi District in the state of Karnataka India. Shiruru village lies on NH-66 running between Mumbai and Mangalore. The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport. The village, also known as Shiroor, has three major parts: Shiroor Bazaar, Shiroor Market and Shiroor Kesarkodi, which are within one kilometre of each other. Shiroor is served by the Konkan Railway with a local railway line running between Mumbai and Mangalore, but only passenger trains stop at the station. A new school, Green Valley National School was set up, and subsequently Green Valley College was also set up in 2007.

History
Shiroor Armakki is the oldest Bunts Community House and has long history. Most of the historical bunt families were been a relationship with this family. In Shiroor the Nakhuda Mohallah has a history of hundreds of years. Historically, people with this epithet are Muslim and Kamili Jewish ship owning merchants of Persian origin, known to have crossed the Persian Gulf to trade in other coastal areas of the world.
Shiroor Armakki is itself a family in the north part of old geographic Dakshina Kannada. More than 5000 families have a relationship with thishouse, and more than 2500 houses are from this house as ‘Aliya Santhana’ system.
Demography
The population of Shiruru are Mesthas, Charodis, GSB’S Konkani, Poojaris, Mogaveeras, Brahmins and Hindus, Muslims. In the Shiruru village have four major community people; they are mainly KonkaniNakhuda, Dakni, and Zamaity. The main language spoken in Shiroor is Kannada. Konkani community people speak Konkani as their mother tongue is Konkani. Muslim Nakhuda community people speak Nakhuda language; it is similar to Marathi language; Muslim Dakni community people speak pure Urdu language; Zamaity community people speak their mother tongue Zamaity language.
Business
Fishing, retail (particularly garment, gold and grocery) and carpentry businesses are found in the village. Shiroor has an historic fish and vegetable market where all kinds of fresh fish and vegetables are available. Branches of the Syndicate Bank, Karnataka Bank and Vijaya Bank are present as well as the Bhatkal Urban Co-Operative Bank Ltd, Shiroor Co. Operative Society and UAE money exchange.
Places of interest
Notable places of interest include: Sri Durgambika temple, Pete Venkataramana temple, the old bridge, Karikatte, a seashore with small harbour and the nearby Ganapati temple.
