Sokrati

"Sokrati" (Greek script: "Σωκράτη", English translation: "Socrates") was the Greek entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, performed in Greek by Elpida.
The song was performed seventh on the night (following Monaco's Laurent Vaguener with "Notre vie c'est la musique" and preceding Switzerland's Peter, Sue & Marc & Pfuri, Gorps & Kniri with "Trödler Und Co"). At the close of voting, it had received 69 points, placing 8th in a field of 19.
The song is in praise of the philosopher Socrates, who is likened to a "superstar" in the lyrics. Mention is made of his trial and forced suicide, linking the Athenian citizens to Pontius Pilate, as a reference to them doing nothing to prevent his death.
It was succeeded as Greek representative at the 1980 Contest by Anna Vissi & The Epikouri with "Autostop". Elpida returned to the Contest in 1986, then representing Cyprus with "Tora Zo".
