Sonkar
The Sonkar or Sonker are a Hindu caste, is a subclan of Khateek community, traditionally belong to Nagavanshi Kshatriya tribe, found in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in India. Historically, the Sonkar were a community of butchers, dyers along with selling fruits, flowers and vegetables. They are divided into a number of exogamous clans, the main ones being the Magariya, Gotiya and Jaraliya. The community speak the Bundelkhandi dialect of Hindi. In Uttar Pradesh, they are found mainly in the districts of Hamirpur and Jhansi.〔Tribes and Castes of North Western Provinces and Oudh Volume IV by William Crook pages 345 to 346〕 They worship serpents and considered them to be their protector deities.
In Chhattisgarh, Sonker are sub-cast of kachhi (Kushwaha/Koshwaha/Maurya) &〔(Gazette no Resolution No. & date 12015/2/2007-BCC Dtd 18/08/2010.)〕
