It is one of the seats of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sonsón–Rionegro. Sonsón celebrates "Las Fiestas Del Maíz"- ('The Corn Party'). This event consists of concerts, cabalgatas (horse back riding), and a lot of arepas and corn. ==History== In the early 20th century, Sonsón was the second largest city in Antioquia after Medellín, the capital. Sonsón had many factories, and most of the rich people in Antioquia had business there.
