The name of the town refers to 18th century glass production on the hills, with mirror polishing being done in the valley of the Lauter river. Situated in Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park, the community of Spiegelberg comprises 12 separate villages and farms: Spiegelberg, the villages of Eisenlautern, Großhöchberg, Hüttlen, Obere Roßstaig, Roßstaig, Vorderbüchelberg, Gieshof and Dauernberg, which was incorporated in 1977.
