Squamarina
''Squamarina'' is a genus of lichens currently placed in the family Stereocaulaceae,〔Lumbsch, H. T. and S.M. Huhndorf (ed.) 2007. Outline of Ascomycota – 2007. Myconet 13: 1 - 58.()〕 although it has recently been suggested that it may belong in the family Ramalinaceae.〔Ekman, Stefan, Heidi L. Andersen, and Mats Wedin. 2008. The limitations of ancestral state reconstruction and the evolution of the ascus in the Lecanorales (lichenized Ascomycota). Systematic Biology 57(1): 141–156.〕 The genus has a widespread distribution, and contains 28 species. They form patches of radiating lobes or overlapping scales, with a well-developed upper cortex and no lower cortex. They grow on calcareous soil and rocks.〔 ''Squamarina lentigera'' can be used to make a yellow dye.〔Brough, S. G. 1988. Navajo lichen dyes. Lichenologist 20(3): 279–290.〕 ==References==
