Srokowo

Srokowo (1945-50: Dryfort), ((ドイツ語:Drengfurt)) is a village in Kętrzyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Srokowo.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Central Statistical Office (GUS) - TERYT (National Register of Territorial Land Apportionment Journal) )〕 It lies approximately north-east of Kętrzyn and north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Before 1945 the area was part of the German province of East Prussia. It was renamed Dryfort in 1945, and Srokowo in 1950 after Stanisław Srokowski, the head of the Polish Committee for Settling of Place Names.〔(mazury.info )〕 After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles.
The village has a population of 1,400.
