Stoksund

Stoksund is a former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the northwestern part of the present-day municipality of Åfjord. The municipality included the island of Stokkøya and surrounding islets, plus the surrounding area of the mainland. The biggest village in the area is Revsnes, where the Stoksund Church is located.
==History==
The municipality of Stoksund was established on 1 June 1892 when the old municipality of Bjørnør was divided into three separate municipalities: Stoksund, Osen, Roan. Initially, Stoksund had a population of 1,122. On 1 January 1964, Stoksund was merged into the municipality of Åfjord to its south. Prior to the merger, Stoksund had a population of 1,515. Often spelled wrong as "Stokksund", origin unknown. No official documentation exist that an official change from the spelling "Stoksund" to "Stokksund" has occurred.
