Suciu is a Romanian surname. The word ''suciu'', used in Transylvania, is a synonym for ''cojocar''. A ''cojocar'' is one who produces or sells the ''cojoc'', a sleeved sheepskin coat with fur on the inside, worn especially in rural areas. ''Suciu'' derives from the Hungarian ''szőcs'', although those who bear this name are uniformly Romanian. The name originated in Maramureş and gradually spread south until the Braşov area.
