Suraiya
Suraiya Jamaal Sheikh (15 June 1929 – 31 January 2004) (, (ヒンディー語:सुरैया जमाल शेख़)) was a film playback singer and actress in Bollywood in the 1940s and 1950s. She was one of the most popular actresses and singers of the Indian sub-continent of her generation.
She was the only child of her parents. She was not formally trained in music; yet she went on to become a most successful singing film actress. She first sang for a children's program for AIR All India Radio or (Akashvani) in 1937. She was a disciple of legendary Radio broadcaster Baba-e-Nasharayat (Father of Broadcasting) Zulfiqar Ali Bukhari.

Suraiya〔(Came like a Meteor ) The Hindu, 6 February 2004, Retrieved 30 September 2015〕 was born in Gujranwala, Punjab (British India) to the owner of a small furniture shop. Later her father moved to Lahore and Suraiya〔(Tribute:Suraiya ) Screen, 13 February 2004.〕 was taken to Bombay on the request of her mother, maternal grandmother and a maternal uncle named Zahoor Ahmad. No information on Suraiya's father is available after that time as to where he went or lived at.
She attended New Girls' (also known as) J.B. Petit High School for Girls, in Fort, Mumbai. She also received religious Islamic teachings in Persian at home.
