Surla

Surla is a village located in Ganjam district of Odisha, India at Andhra-Odisha border on National Highway-5. On the other side of Andhra-Odisha border on NH-5, village Purushottamapuram under Ichchapuram municipality limits is located. There is a railway station named Surla Road near to village Surla on Howrah-Chennai main line.
The Surla Road railway station is situated just adjacent to a small mountain called Govardhangiri. Local people believe that it is the same mountain that Lord Krishna lifted with his little finger to save the cattle and shepherds from a severe cyclone created by the rain god Indra. Sunnapur (literally "golden village", in Oriya, the local language) is a small village of fishermen is one mile away from Surla village. Bahuda, an ancient river, flows into the Bay of Bengal here. Visitors will have to cross the mouth of the river to enjoy the vast golden sands of the quiet beach. Berhampur (now renamed ''Brahmapur'') is the nearest city with fairly good facilities to stay is 15 miles away. Taxi and Odisha state bus services are available from here to go to Surla and Sunnapur.
There is a small village, Jagannathpur (Komma Gaan) on the other side of govardhangiri. A clan of Marella's still reside there. History says these Marellas migrated from a village called Marella, now in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.
