Tahkovuori or Tahko, is a Finnish tourist center, open round the year. It is situated in Kuopio, about 70 kilometers from the city centre. Tahko is called a small tourist town with its many restaurants and possibilities for various outdoor activities. It has some of the best winter sports facilities in Finland. Snowmobile enthusiasts also appreciate the marked routes covering hundreds of kilometers in Nilsiä and Northeast Savonia. In summer there are numerous marked paths for hiking and mountain biking. Nilsiä has a well-equipped marina and there is fishing in lakes Syväri and Vuotjärvi, renowned for their stock of fish, and in the Lastukoski rapids. There are also a wide range of sports services and special clubs for people of many different ages. A modern sports field, two full-length golf courses, sports hall, tennis courts and other sports premises offer possibilities for both training and fun. In the neighborhood there is an old place for strip mining. Today this is used for opera performances.
