Tamboli
The Tamboli are a Hindu caste found in North India.〔People of India Bihar Volume XVI Part Two edited by S Gopal & Hetukar Jha pages 911 to 913 Seagull Books〕 In Maharashtra India Tamboli are Muslims, are like to live with joined families only. "Tamboli" is taken from "Tambool" which means "Betel Leaf" in Sanskrit, and are traditionally engaged in the selling of betel-leaves, which traditionally they also cultivated. They speak various local dialects of Hindi. The community is found throughout central and North part of India particularly Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.〔People of India Bihar Volume XVI Part Two edited by S Gopal & Hetukar Jha pages 911 to 913 Seagull Books〕 == Present circumstances == They have set up their own caste association, the Maghaiya Tamboli Hitasi Samaj, which acts as a community welfare associations.
