Thakkar
Thakkar, Thakker,Thacker or Thakrar, thakkar is a Lohana surname found primarily in the Indian state of Gujarat. Most of Gujarati Thakkars worship 'Jalaram Bapa', and other Saints or Hindu Gods. They greet each other with saying 'Jay Jalaram', or 'Jai Sri Krishna'. Gujarati Thakkars are traditionally a business community. They are famous for their snack, Khaman. Many shops operate under the name of 'Thakkar na Khaman' (literally : Khaman of Thakkars). Thakkar's are also found in the Northern India having origin of Punjab and nearby regions. They don't have any direct relation with Gujarat or being Gujarati. These Punjabi Thakkars are comparatively very low in numbers as compared to Gujarati Thakkars.
Thakkar is the most Common Surname of Lohanas. Gujarati Lohanas use the surname 'Thakkar'. The history of 'Thakkar' is the history of 'Lohana'. Lohanas are "Vaishya" or "Kshatriyas". Some modern day Thakkars/Lohanas consider themselves to be 'Vaishyas' since their professions are largely related to Business nowadays, while some believe themselves to be 'Kshtriya' and hence it is still a mythical and a debatable topic.
