Thalayolaparambu (Malayalam: തലയോലപ്പറമ്പ് ), is a village-town situated in the northern part of Kottayam district in Kerala, South India. Belonging to the Vaikom (Malayalam: വൈക്കം ) legislative assembly and Kottayam (Malayalam: കോട്ടയം ) parliament constituency, it is one of the chief towns situated on the Ernakulam-Kottayam route. Spanning over an area of 20.63 square kilometres with a population of approximately 22,000 people, this mini-town is home to some of the well-known personalities such as the former Chief minister of Travancore-Cochin A. J. John, Anaparambil, the late Malayalam novelist/writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, the former Chief Justice of India K. G. Balakrishnan, former MLA K R Narayanan and the Convenor of Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala Vaikom Viswan,Jaykar T S, Vaikom Shamsudeen (BSS & JMSWPCC) etc. Thalayolaparambu also hosts the major market established during the administration of Velu Thampi Dalawa, and is one of those few Keralite markets that still retains its old-world charm till date. ==History== History of this region is related to Venad. Venattarachan gave a part of his kingdom to the minister of Chazhi Illam as a gift for killing the king of Vadakkumkoor. Those places which was written in the first 'Thaaliola' came to be known as Thalayoalaparambu. Another story says that this region is at the head area of Kuttanad and was known as 'Thalapparambu' and later it became Thalayolaparambu.
