They worship Goddess Chowdeshwari Devi. It is believed that Chowdeshwari Devi came from Varanasi to Nandavaram. The 500 Brahmin families who stayed back at Nandavaram became Nandavarika Brahmins, a section of who became the custodians of the Chowdeshwari Devi temple. The Thogataveera community and the Nandavarika Brahmin community live in amity and close association with one another. The caste is traditionally occupied in weaving and textile businesses. The majority of population is concentrated in the districts of Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Chittoor, Mahabubnagar, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of Andhra Pradesh. This community is also thickly populated in places like Banglore, Yalahanka, Chitradurga and Ballary of Karnataka.
