Thumaita is rural village on the southern slope of Mount Kenya. It is in the Baragwi Location of Kirinyaga District, Central Province, of Kenya at an elevation of 1,676 m. The name in Kikuyu means, "where the soldiers were defeated", allegedly so named in the days when the Kikuyu and Maasai used to raid each other's communities and take away cattle. Castle Lodge, the famous holiday house built with river stones and wood for King George in 1910, is located 11 kilometres northwest of Thumaita inside the Mt Kenya Forest. Visitors to Castle Forest Lodge have included both Queen Elizabeth and President Jomo Kenyatta who visited it when they were students. ==Agriculture== Agriculture is the main stay of economic activities in Thumaita, tea, coffee and dairy activities leading the sub-sectors.
