Rather it takes its name from the epithet of Fergus son of Cremthann, the eponymous ancestor of the ''Ui Chremthainn'', the predominant tribe of the western Airgialla.〔〔 Fergus lived in the late fifth century and was known as ''Cennfhota'' (long-head).
