The old town wall in the neighbourhood is one of the 163 notified areas (megalithic sites) in the state of Tamil Nadu. ==Etymology== This area got its name from a famous seventeenth century Muslim Saint "Kunangudi Masthan Sahib". His birthplace is located near Thondi in Ramanathapuram District. He meditated in a place known as "Lebbai Kaadu" in Chennai. The locals called him "Thondiar", meaning "Man hailing from Thondi".
