Torkamanchay ((アゼルバイジャン語:Türkmənçay); (ペルシア語:تركمانچائ); also Romanized as Torkamānchāy, Torkamān Chāy, Torkmancāy, Turkmanchai, Turkemanchay, Turkomanchay, Turkmānchāi, Torkamān Chāy, Torkamānchāi, and Turcoman Chie; also known simply as Torkamān) is a city in and the capital of Torkamanchay District, in Meyaneh County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. A suburb of Mianeh, it is well known for the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828, which concluded the last Russo-Persian War, and by that the forced cession of what is now Armenia, the parts of the contemporary Republic of Azerbaijan which hadn't yet been ceded in 1813, as well as Igdir to Imperial Russia. At the 2006 census, its population was 6,434, in 1,645 families. ==References==
