Turup
Turup, also known as Arpaa Turup, is a card game played widely in Northeast Africa. In Somalia, it involves four players, usually using a 144-card pack made up four identical 36-card packs.
==Game play==
The game uses a standard French deck of playing cards. 1 deck is used for 2-4 players (52 cards), 2 decks are used for 5-7 players (104 cards) and 3 decks are used for 8-12 players (156 cards). Each player is dealt 4 cards and a 4 card community pile is also dealt. The general purpose of Turup is to collect the most amount of cards from the community pile that add or equal a card from a players individual hands. After a deal the first person to the left of the dealer begins the play. The dealer also rotates to the left after each round. There are two ways to collect the cards from the community pile; a match or addition. Face cards cannot be won with addition and can only be won as a match. Only one card from the players hand can be played at a time and after a play is made play moves to the next player. Aces are valued as a One (1).
