Uravi
Uravi〔, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency〕 ((グルジア語:ურავი)) is a village in western Georgia in Ambrolauri District of the Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region. It is located on the Lukhunis River, a tributary of the Rioni River that enters from the right (north). Uravi was the site of an arsenic mine and processing plant when Georgia was part of the USSR, and the arsenic dump above the village leaches arsenic into the soil, the groundwater and the river.〔Crawford, Angus (25 May 2011) ("Georgia's 'secret' arsenic village" ) ''BBC News'', accessed 25 May 2011〕〔Staff (November 1996) ("Water Pollution - Industrial Sector: Uravi Mining Factory" ) State of the Environment Georgia, Geoinformation Center, Tbilisi, Georgia〕〔Committee on Environmental Policy, Economic Commission for Europe, United Nations (2003) ''Environmental performance reviews: Georgia, Volume 11'' United Nations Publications, New York, (page 111 ), ISBN 92-1-116851-1〕 The town depopulated after the arsenic factory closed. Plans to reopen the facility〔Georgian Public Broadcaster (11 May 2008) ("Georgia’s Prime Minister visiting Ambrolauri region" ) ''Georgian Daily'', accessed 25 May 2011〕 were not successful.〔 == Notes ==
