Urian Urien is a British noble male given name (also Urian, Uryen, Uren). It is presumably derived from British ''Urbgen''. It is recorded in 1273 in ''The Hundred Rolls of Huntingdonshire'' In the modern period, it also occurs as a surname, as ''Urian''. Geoffrey of Monmouth Latinizes the name as ''Urbianus'' (in reference to the semi-legendary British king Urien). In early modern Germany, the name ''Urian'' (''Herr Urian'', ''Meister Urian'') becomes associated with the devil (so in ''Walpurgisnacht'', Goethe's Faust).
