Quaianlagen (Zürich)

The historical Quaianalagen (quays, or quaysides) respectively Seeuferanlagen (lakeshore sites) on Zürichsee lakefront in the Swiss city of Zürich were inaugurated in 1887. The quays are an important milestone in the development of the modern city of Zürich, as by the construction of the new lake front, Zürich was transformed from the medieval small town on the rivers Limmat and Sihl to an attractive modern city on the Zürichsee lakeshore, under the guidance of the city engineer Arnold Bürkli.
== Geography ==
The quais are situated in the districts of Enge, Seefeld and Wollishofen at the lower ''Zürichsee'' lake shore within the city of Zürich. The complete construction includes, among others, the central ''Bürkliplatz'' on the effluence of the Limmat, and (alphabetically) Arboretum, Belvoirpark, Blatterwiese, Centre Le Corbusier, Chinagarten, General-Guisan-Quai, Mythenquai, Riesbach, Saffa-Insel, Seefeldquai, the lidos Strandbad Mythenquai, Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen and Seebad Utoquai, Sechseläutenplatz, Utoquai and Zürichhorn
The so-called ''Unteres Zürichseebecken'' also houses four of the Prehistoric pile dwellings around Zürichsee of the transnational 111 serial sites. Probably the majority of the important sites of the so-called Horgen culture are situated on lakeshore, including Grosser Hafner on a former lake island and Kleiner Hafner on a peninsula at ''Sechseläutenplatz'' respectively at the effluence of the Limmat, and Zürich–Enge Alpenquai, within an area of about in the city of Zürich.
