Uttamaujas Uttamaujas is a bodyguard of Arjuna. He is the protector of the rear of Arjuna's chariot. With his brother Yudhamanyu, they fought a battel against King Duryodhana. == Legend ==
The names of Uttamaujas and his brother Yudhamanyu are mentioned while Duryodhana was giving a list of twenty great and important charioteers (Maharathees) that were taking part in the war on behalf of the Pandavas〔Sloka no. 6 of Srimad Bhagavat Gita –First Chapter〕 According to the Mahabharat they were brothers and princes from the royal clan of the Panchalas. In fact they were the sons of the king of Panchala. The name of the king of Southern Panchala, at that time, was Drupada. This means that they were brothers of Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas. Their role and duties are mentioned at various places in the Mahabharata (5-57, 5-199,7-127). Both were engaged as body guards of Arjuna initially. Yudhamanyu was deployed as the protector of the left wheel of the chariot of Arjuna, while Uttamaujas was posted as the protector of the right wheel. Later they were asked to protect the chariot at the rear. (Mbh 6-15,6-19, 6-99, 7-88.7-127,7-144, 8-11) On their way to meet Arjuna, they were stopped by King Duryodhana and engaged in a fierce battle.
