Vadner

Vadner is a town of about 30,000 people in Nashik district. It is situated in Maharashtra state of Indian Republic. Vadner is famous for its grapes.
The town is predominantly an agrarian one - with ~80% of its population engaged in agriculture and related activities. The remaining 20% are in supporting activities like services, transport, retail and so on. Vadner is a fairly rich town. Much of these riches are attributable to the grape farming.
Culturally Vadner is a typical western Maharashtrian village - in terms of accent, social norms, things which are admired and things which are looked down upon. The predominant religion is Hindu (though a good number of Muslim families are also there). Most major farmer families are Phool-Mali and Maratha while some from other castes have also done fairly well. The caste divide is not very strong in day-to-day activities. However, in terms of marriages and political lobbying, caste divides are well entrenched.
Every year in the month of April, festival takes place on the eve of marriage of god Bhairvnath.
Technologically Vadner still has some way to go. Internet has still not quite entrenched it yet. Banking is driven by local cooperatives. Markets for nonessential items are underdeveloped and people rely on nearby large towns for the same. There is no major hospital.
